Another track from a house party session on May 19th 2002. Guesting with the Hot Five Jazzmakers is Mick Lewis on clarinet. Rest of the band is Brian Graville - trumpet; Janet Shaw- alto sax; Rainer Hunck - banjo; Colin Bray - string bass and Brian Towers - trombone.
The video clip picks up the number after several choruses, so we have missed the alto and clarinet solos! Too bad, but there were so many folks dancing that one could not see the band. "Algiers Strut" was of course the signature tune of the late Kid Thomas band. The melody is the same as the seasonal 1946 pop song "You're All I Want For Christmas" So, posting this up on December 22 seems appropriate!

  • That must have been some party!Once again tremendous music, everything gels when they play. Thanks for the clips.

  • Brian - I do believe you were channeling Nelson there a bit.

BTW "You're All I Want for Christmas" - was by the 1920s crooner Seger Ellis (1904-1995) who was OKeh records most popular male vocalist.

The chords on the song are a bit more lush than Algiers Strut - personally I like Kid Thomas' approach better.

    Merry Christmas Lads & Jan!
