@transonicbuoy1 - PS. Allopurinol can help a LOT. But, it can also make your flareup WORSE when you first start taking it. Also, some people advise that you try to bring the flare-up under control before starting allopurinol. FYI, my doctor gave me allopurinol when I was experiencing a really bad flare up and it really helped after a few weeks...so it obviously doesn't always make it worse at first.
Also, a cortisone shot works wonders for me....It reduces the pain IMMENSLY.
@transonicbuoy1 - I recommend the anti-inflammatory indomethacin. Here in the states, you have to get a prescription from the doctor. Otherwise, take any NSAID like advil (ibuprophen). Drink PLENTY of water because dehydration makes it much much worse and flying can defo make you dehydrated. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL. Don't eat seafood or fish. Don't eat red meat. Don't eat beans, peas or legumes. Cherries, strawberries, and other berries are good. So are bananas and pineapples, I hear.
I am 43 and have had attacks of gout now for over ten years.I either get it in my feet, ankles or left elbow, never my right one for some reason and never in my toes.
I take allurpurinol daily and have a supply of naproxin,an anti-inflamatory incase the tablets don`t work....my doctor told me the allurpurinol isn`t 100% !!!
I have just ran out of tablets and another prescription is needed but i thought i would see about alternative type remedies.

Nice post. I am 38 and I had my first gout attack last week. Have been incapacited for 10 days now. Been resting. And I fly back to the UK next week from Japan - two long haul economy flights by night. By jove! Will be hellish. Any advice there, my fellow gout brothers?
@fabolousx4 try a tea spoon of baking soda with a cup of water for morning evening and night. it kills all that acid in the body making it more alkaline. doctors wont tell you that and its super cheap.. hope the best. my dad also has gout.
Im telling you right now, baking soda and apple cider vinegar the good kind.
