Nipomo High School Pink Slip Protest

During 3rd period the day before, Bonnie Underwood of Nipomo High School organized a sit in the next day (3/13/09). This protest was in support of the teachers and staff of not only NHS, but the entire district who received RIF notices. 43% of the district's teachers received these notices, more than two neighboring districts combined, multiplied by two. These were not only young teachers who received them, but teachers who have been with the district over 20, even over 30 years! Teachers locked their doors and went out to support and join in on the protest, some even gave speeches. The protest lasted all day, with students refusing to go class (except for checking in for attendance, so the district still received much needed money), and was also featured online and on the local news. A huge thanks goes out to the administrative staff of Nipomo High (most of all our principal, Mrs. Johnson) for letting our peaceful protest see the end of the day.
