Open house tour of the 30M(?) gal/day plant in Germantown, MD. The first video part is of the bacterial solids-aeration tanks that remove (digest) the solids from the sewage; second part is more of the same; third part is the weir where water moves to the pump house (3, 500-hp noisy electric motors) to be returned to the tanks; the fourth part is the solids centrifuge where more solids are collected by a spinning arm. The water seems quite clean at that point. The sand/gravel filtration treatment stage remained (not filmed). Finally, the water is returned to Seneca creek "cleaner" than from upstream of its return.
Amazingly, there were zero objectionable odors (cool and cloudy weather).
Also, stop the grease , people!
It's a simple process, yet delicate to balance and operate efficiently, and the technology is state-of-the-art. The plant is "one of the best" in the country, and the people that work there are very proud of this point. Great job, guys!
More to come! (electrical distribution, pre-filtering... sorry photos only)
