This is a great poor man's steadycam technique we use all the time. By mounting your video camera on a monopod, it lowers the center of gravity and helps you to keep your hand held video shots much more fluid.

  • Generally the smaller the camera the better the monopod works, because you have a much lower center of gravity because the smaller cameras are so light. One of the new Kodak hd cams or a flip cam works great on a mono pod.

  • Mine has been in dropped, on countless plane rides, and generally abused. There is just not that many parts to break. I am not loyal to any one brand at all, but the Manfrotto that I use has been a dependable piece of gear that I use all the time.

  • i got mines for 15 bucks at wal mart today

  • This is my "two cents worth"....I do believe that the HEAVIER a monopod is, the STEADIER it will be!.. so, the lighter monopods are great for certain types of shooting, but I intend to buy the HEAVIEST monopod I can find. And, no, I don't intend to BACKPACK, which would certainly change what I"ve just said.... he didn't mention what was the model number of the Manfrotto. I plan to buy one similar to that one, if its heavy enough!..

  • What if you have a pocket camera. Does a monopod work for that too?

    Someone reply please!

  • I find it unfortunate that there have no screws on the other side of the monopod to be able to use it as a telescopic perch...

  • Thanks Matt. Enjoy your many videos.
