Legendary debate between notable NYHC figures that aired on WNYU's Crucial Chaos show in the early 90s. The issue, the business of hardcore.

Steve Martin (In Effect Records, formerly Agnostic Front)
Lou & Pete from Sick of it All
Sam Evacuate (Evacuate Records)

vs

Sam McPheeters & Adam Nathanson (Born Against, Vermiform Records)
Charles Maggio (Rorsach, Gern Blandsten Records)

20 years later, people still argue about the commercialization of hardcore and nobody will ever shut the fuck up about it. The SOIA dudes came out on top in this, what do you all think? Enjoy.

  • @nkase44 Born Against is actual Punk. DIY punk is the only punk. None of this Sick of it all shit who are only concerned about making money. You heard them in the first clip, all they were concerned about was making money off albums, making sure they were able to get their record into record stores. Any actual punk band didn't give a fuck about money.

  • I remember hearing this. 20 years on and did any of it really matter? It's my honest opinion that hardcore truly ended when the internet came out and that is speaking as someone who was in the scene when this was taped. If anything Born Against lost the debate because they came out hard with all their rules and PC shit at first and in the end they flaked hard in the biggest way. Sick of it all may have turned into ineffectual, warp tour crap but that first LP is one of the greats from that era.

  • Born Against are PC, elitist, holier than thou jackasses who for some reason feel that they are in a position to dictate what the terms of everything should be. It's the same old story. PC suburbanites run for cover when blue collar people get into hardcore. It never ends.
