Ergs don't float...

RW has got years of rowing behind him and a lot of full time rowing and all the worlds respect, I think that it is fair to give GB his respect as he came to the sport very late in life and has relatively little sporting background. If he had the same background as RW he would be a lot closer to RWs times (5 secs isn't a big gap considering). Also I though GB was only 110KGs or less as well.

how tall is he? and what is his wingspan? That's almost as important as his weight, because if he is 6'8" with a 7'2" it's no wonder that he can cruise below 1:30

rob waddell would make mince meat of these guys and hes only 98kg not 118kg like Benton

118 kg

doesnt really mean a hell of a lot in a 2k race all out my first 5 strokes are 1:35-1:19-1:12-1:10-1:09 but my pb for 2k is only 6:17. For a guy who only does indoor rowing he aint that amazing Rob Waddell can not row for 8 years and come back within a couple of months and break the 5k and 2k world record he could smash the 500 aswel if he wanted to hes done a min peice at 1:09 hes an absolute mutant

I think that guy did around 5:48. Although he looked quick out of the blocks, Benton actually got the faster start. From a standing start he can get to a 1:07 split on his 3rd stroke! On a 10 second sprint test his first 5 strokes went: 1:37 - 1:16 - 1:07 - 1:05 - 1:04, so he's pretty quick off the mark.

5:46.4. He's gone quicker since having pulled a 5:43.6 a couple months back so he's now only 1 sec off Matthew Pinsents British Record.
