USS Liberty: America backstabs Israel and gets caught spying for her enemies

Was the USS Liberty spying on Israel during the Six-day war? The USS Liberty was loitering near the Sinai, gathering intelligence on Israel's positions during the war and most likely passing it on to its enemies: Jordan and the UAR and/or Saudi Arabia and even Egypt. IF the spy ship was picking up Israeli battle plans and transferring them to Egypt or any other hostile entities, then they had clearly taken sides and would be viewed as a hostile force - regardless of who they were. The NSA (National Security Agency) was never asked to release its Intel tapes, if indeed they were receiving and transferring battle info to Egypt. Each side denied responsibility and its doubtful the real story will ever be told - except for a self-serving manipulation by Israel bashers.
According to document that have been declassified by the US Department of Defense, the US Strike Command (now CentCom) had plans for attacking Israel if it went too far into Judea and Samaria or the Sinai (Israel's historical territory). The US Sixth Fleet and marines would have been put into action.
The report also claims that the US would have entered the fray, if Arab armies would have gone far too deep into Israel's territory.

@davidedwinlewis there was concern, by somebody in USS Liberty's Research Operations department, about the lack of Hebrew language dictionaries aboard USS Liberty... but it does refute claims of there being no Hebrew linguists aboard USS Liberty and there being no interest in SIGINT involving Hebrew language sources. Clearly, a request for Hebrew language dictionaries shows interest or concern about possible usage -- likely by somebody with training in the Hebrew language.

Of course the Liberty was a spy ship. What you didn't say is that Israel attacked her in International waters, but then that is what the IDF does. They are still attacking ships that are unarmed in International waters. Above the law is what they think they are.

31. Chief Nowicki was a Hebrew linguist, referred to in 1967 as a "special Arabic" linguist. 32. A second Hebrew linguist (who does not wish his name disclosed but whose name is known to the NSA) was monitoring Hebrew language voice transmissions in the "tent" on June 8, 1967 and he alerted Chief Nowicki to certain transmissions he found of interest.
