@matbroomfield no offense but sitting in front of the computer commenting on youtube videos isn't healthy either and you still do it ;) This exercise is not meant to be a regular part of your routine, moreover, properly conditioned knees that are built over a long period of time, like Steve's, are pretty bulletproof. The human body can be quite amazing :)

@jingangquan I would argue that stimulating your mind is at least as good for you as physical exercise, but regardless, two wrongs don't make a right. I realise that the human body can be amazing, and this exercise is like the ones done by the Chinese monks, but I do wonder if there are long term repercussions for his knees. I'd be interested to know if by doing these exercises, he increases or decreases the longterm resilience and strength of the non-muscle components of his knees.

@jingangquan Yes. And no doubt it IS a very impressive feat. As a martial artist myself, I admire that kind of strength, but at my age, I don't want to do something that will decrease my fitness in the long term. I wonder if there have been any studies of the Chinese monks - they always seem to be sitting around as they get older! ;-)

@matbroomfield Having trained in one of the schools around the temple I can tell you that many of them are pretty messed up, what we see here are the ones that were blessed with genetics and "survived" the training, haha ;) Actually, I think the cossacks you can see in the video are not too hard on the knees, especially done in a more controlled way. Remember that Steve started at a very young age and did loads of pistols and other BWEs that built his strong leg muscles as well as
