  • NO SURRDNER from Emonton

  • @ecwlievtenant a revolution that was driven by ulster-scots don't forget. the first area in the colonies to declare independance was a county near charleston, NC mostly of Ulster-scots who had emmigrated from Ireland in the 100 years before. The Ulster-scots people have a very undersold history in the US compared to say Catholic Irish who emigrated there. Long live the Union and long live the Western world

  • From about 1604, you idiot.

Jamestown, named for king James? Carolina, for King Charles? New York (capital: Albany) named for the Duke of York and Albany.

The Union Flag flew over America for 170+ years. Part of it remains in the Hawaiian flag.

Part of US culture remains part of UK culture - choke on that if you can't handle it.

That's why your knickers go atwist when you see these videos - they support our point that the Special Relationship with Britain is alive and well.

  • Of course the American colonies were part of the Union - hence the revolution to overthrow the Crown.

Try reading a book on the subject.

Next you will say something equally unsupportable, like Gibralter isn't part of the Union.

  • Hence my use of the past tense. The point is that my ancestors were not an occupied people. They were from the British Isles and lived in British colonies.

  • You are not british, you are american. your ancestors were british.

  • We were British people, leaving from Britain to live in a British Colony. We were simply moving a little farther out into the Empire. Some, like the Puritans, left Britain for the New World to escape religious persecution. Not so for the large population of communicants in the Churches of England and Ireland that settled in the American Colonies. We were Britons that moved to the fringes of the British Empire expecting to live under British rule and the English Church!

  • ........ correct

  • Without being all that sure of what you're asking, I think I can see the direction in which your question is headed. You seem to be under the misapprehension that American colonists were just over here minding our own business when the British, like the Germans invading Poland in 1939, came in and occupied our lands. Cont'd...

  • I'm an Apprentice Boy and not a member of the Orange, although I have family and friends in it.

I'm not 100% sure of what you mean by "British Union." Do you mean the result of the 1707 Act of Union uniting the Kingdoms of Scotland and England? The 1800 Act of Union uniting the Kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland?
