An epic adventure on the open water highlighted by shipwrecks, squalls, and swarming flies of biblical proportions... Team Forte Sea making their second appearance in the in the ORR Cruising Division of the Chicago Yacht Club's 103rd Annual Race To Mackinac.
The Chicago to Mackinac Sailboat Race is run by the Chicago Yacht Club. With a race course running 333 mi (536 km), it is the oldest and one of the longest fresh-water races in the world, with hundreds of yachts entering each year.
The race was first run in 1898, with the sloop Vanenna winning against four boats, and starts off the mouth of the Chicago River in Chicago, crosses Lake Michigan, barely enters Lake Huron, and finishes in the Round Island Channel, off Mackinac Island, Michigan. July 15th 2011 marked the 103rd annual race, and Team Forte Sea's second appearance. Over 350 boats and 3500 crew members entered, 50 in the cruising division alone. Team Forte Sea placed 18th in the cruising category.
