A plate is thrown on the potters wheel and the sides are cut and refined to make a square dinner plate. I talk a little about centering and the process of making a 11" dinner plate.

  • squeaky squeakyyy

the porcelain clay i used was really hard to remove from the batt and even harder to trim

  • I know, I can't get the squeak out. I use Nara porcelain from Aardvark Clay in LA, CA area. There are vast differences in the workability of porcelains. You need to find a good one. So far as removing from the bat, just pull water under it with your wire cut off tool and slide it off at once. You need sharp tools to trim porcelain and to trim your work when they are the correct dryness. I hope this helps.

It hurts that videoes so good at Spanish do not exist, Rafael

  • I'm going to try making a square plate today. I have a feeling my wire cuts won't go quite as smooth as yours.

  • Great video , very informative, looking forward to #2,

    Jamie
