In January 2011, CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare) rescued a Vervet Monkey from high up in a tree at a school in Soweto. He had been terrorised by the community for a week leading up to his rescue - hundreds of fireworks had been thrown at him & the fire brigade had tried to blow him out of the trees with high powered hoses.
Bontle Setlhogoe, Regional Organiser for the Johannesburg ANCWL (ANC Womens League), happened to arrive five minutes after the monkey's rescue. Her reason for visiting was because she had heard a radio interview with Cora Bailey (CLAW Founder) and she was concerned for the Vervet Monkey's safety. Bontle did not know the monkey had just been rescued until she arrived.
Bontle requested that she address the people that were present. Fortunately, Cora Bailey had her vidcam handy and was able to record Bontle's wonderful impromptu speech to the community. This is what she had to say!
A very fine and caring speech. Unfortunately the events of May 2011 prove that her wonderful words have not been heard or heeded.

Very great speech!! (except the last bit about keeping 'em as pets...) But...she speaks the truth 100%
