I really love the ending. I've rewatched it many times because its so beautiful...and on top of that, its a happy ending! Doesn't anyone feel the same way as I do? :)

Why does everyone think Dio died?

For one you can hear him on the Silvana in 2/3 yelling, "ASCENDIIIING!" right after the Rogue-Guild member who works on the Silvana says it. Also, like JN said, he is in the sequel.
