Dr. A. Abdul Salam, Vice Chancellor of Calicut University inaugurated the National Arabic Day Programmes at Ma'din Islamic Academy and laid the foundation stone for a proposed Arabic Research Centre in the campus. He reiterated the role of Ma'din in offering both religious and secular education in the region. Various distinguished scholars in Arabic presented papers on the significance of Arabic as a lingua franka in the modern world. The programme was presided over by Sayyid Ibraheemul Khaleelul Bukhari, chairman Ma'din Islamic Academy.

Arabic became a United Nations recognized language on 18th December 1973. By this memorable recognition a status in par with UN recognized languages of English, French, Chinese, Russian and Spanish was accorded to Arabic. Among Arab League member countries 22 have Arabic as their first language with a population exceeding 300 million, and another 500 million people in non-Arab countries can read and write this language. Arabic has affirmed its strength as a powerful classic language since 800 B.C.,. which continues till this day. It is one of the most articulated medium in terms of vast and comprehensive vocabulary, consistency of literary styles and being a living language with applications covering all aspects of the modern life. Arabic is immortalized by revelation of the Holy Qur'an, and definitely will endure test of time untill the last day. Allah himself has undertaken the responsibility of its perseverance in its true form including language, as he says in the holy Qur'an, 15:9; "Verily, It is We who have sent down the Holy Quran and surely, We will guard it". "إنا نحن نزلنا الذكر وإنا له لحافظون.
