Shelley Oliver, Canadian born tap dancer, choreographer, and educator has over twenty years experience as a professional in which time she has appeared internationally with some of the legends of the tap world. She leads her own group The Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers and is the featured tap soloist with the David Leonhardt Jazz Group touring jazz festivals and concerts worldwide. She is a founding member of the noted dance ensemble, Manhattan Tap and was a co-artistic director/choreographer with the company. A noted soloist as well Ms. Oliver has toured extensively throughout Europe, China, the Caribbean, Canada and the United States. She has worked with such tap notables as Savion Glover, Greg Hines, Jimmy Slide, Buster Brown, Charles "Cookie" Cook, Steve Condos, Fred Strickler, and Chuck Green. She has produced a popular series of Tap Dance CDs Tap Music For Tap Dancers designed as an educational aide for tap students that have become a standard pedagogical tool worldwide. Her television appearances include Tap Dance in America with Gregory Hines and she was a finalist in Star Search as a young performer. Ms. Oliver has performed with many great jazz musicians including Slide Hampton, David "Fathead" Newman, Robin Eubanks, and Kenny Washington. A well known dance educator she teaches jazztap at Muhlenberg College, choreographs for the theater, and is Director of the Muhlenberg Jazz Tap Ensemble. She has conducted work shops and residencies for Lincoln Center, New York City Public Schools and universities through out the United States. She is available for performances, Master classes and teaching. You may know that David Leonhardt has 38 years of professional experience with many of the top names in jazz from Benny Carter to Stan Getz. You may not know: he played for twenty five years with David Fathead Newman recording and arranging 5 CDs ; spent four years as musical director for jazz vocalist Jon Hendricks touring the world; spent twelve years freelancing in New York City, Broadway to the Today Show, jazz clubs to dance halls, Bar Mitzvahs and weddings to cabaret clubs and Lincoln Center, jingles to jazz records; since the 80's has baked up a host legendary master tap dancers and is musical director for The Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers; has decades of experiences as a jazz educator in universities, colleges, clinics and workshops with ten years of presenting Jazz For Kids to literally tens of thousands of children; his first jazz experience was playing piano as a teenager with jazz educator Jamey Aebersold in concerts, clubs and schools in Louisville, KY; his first road experience with a southern rock band touring Dixie age 16; his first professional engagement at the age of 14 in a teenage rock band.
