Manteniendo la posesión de los derechos de las historias de Batman de DC comics, la Warner Bros. continuó con su propio éxito de la serie animada de Batman, esta vez titulada "The New Batman Adventures".
El serial tomó lugar unos pocos años después de la época de "Batman, la serie animada", siendo ahora Dick Grayson (Ricardo Tapia) y Bábara Gordon graduados de la escuela, ambos viviendo en Ciudad Gótica.
Dick decidió no retornar a su rol de Robin, y optó por forjar su propia carrera como luchador contra el crímen como Nightwing (Ala Nocturna).
Bárbara dividió su tiempo entre su trabajo en el departamento de policía de Ciudad Gótica y su carrera como Batgirl (Batichica).
Y llegó un renovado y pre-adolescente Robin : Tim Drake de sólo 13 años. Otro pupilo adoptado por Bruce Wayne (Bruno Díaz) cuando el padre del niño lo abandonó para dedicarse a una vida criminal (historia que en realidad corresponde al segundo Robin (Jason Todd) en la continuidad del comic).
Bruce entrenó a Tim como un nuevo Robin y así los cuatro héroes (Batman, Robin, Batgirl y Nightwing se unen para mantener a salvo a los habitantes de Ciudad Gótica.
Los conocidos villanos tanto de los seriales anteriores como provenientes del mundo del comic vuelven a hacerse presentes en esta nueva entrega. Así veremos enfrentamientos con El Joker, Gatúbela, Bane, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, Ra's Al Ghul, Talia ,Cara de Barro, Dos caras, etc.
El serial incluye algunos capítulos (19, 26, 27 y 28) en los que Batman se une a otra leyenda de DC comics: Supermán.
