Bishop Thomas Tobin of Rhode Island effectively excommunicated Patrick Kennedy because he refuses to use health care reform to change the status quo, enacted 30 years ago, i.e. the womans choice to abort. Dont get me wrong, I am not in favor of abortion unless it is needed to save the life of the mother.
Congressman Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island is the son of late Senator Ted Kennedy.
Bishop Tobin has an issue with Patrick Kennedy having told CNSNews.com that the Catholic Church is doing nothing but fanning the flames of dissent and discord by taking the position that it will oppose the health-care reform bill under consideration in Congress unless it is amended to explicitly prohibit funding of abortion.
Congressman Patrick Kennedys statement about the Catholic Churchs position on health care reform is irresponsible and ignorant of the facts. But the Congressman is correct in stating that he cant understand. He got that part right the Bishop says.
He continues: The Bishops of the United States are indeed in favor of comprehensive health care reform
Bishop Tobin: You HAVE NO position unless you make it public. As of this day I have not heard ONE SINGLE WORD from the catholic church, from ANY church for that matter, or its leaders publicly supporting health care. No Bishop, no Pope. To me that means that unless you support health care publicly, you do not support it and just sitting in your Pews doesnt cut it.
And paying a lobbyist to talk the Senate into changing the status quo on abortion is not the same as paying one to support health care reform.

  • You say that you would only approve of abortion if the woman's life were threatened by having the baby. So if one of your wives were raped or impregnated against there will, would you force them to carry and give birth to the child of someone that raped or molested them?

  • @totaltranquility Hell NO ! That is not what I said. To the contrary, these are cases where abortion is justified. Indeed, while I am in favor of keeping life, there are circumstances where abortion is unavoidable not only when the life of the woman is at stake.

  • As far as the Kennedy matter goes, I know how Jesus would feel about the violence we are doing to the unborn. The lord commanded "thou shalt not KILL". You can use all of the psychobabble known to man and you still can't change the fact that when you abort, you have killed.

  • Much agreed!

  • Extremely well done.

  • Thank you

  • Patrick Kennedy supports partial birth abortion, taxpayer funding for abortion, opposes laws to inform parents of their minor daughter's abortions. He opposes any regulations on abortion and thinks it should be permitted during all 9 months for ANY reason. He has fought hard to use tax dollars to fund abortion clinics. Then he goes and partakes in the sacraments.

  • The moral "giants" that the Catholic pope and bishops imagine themselves to be couldn't bring themselves to hinder the murder of millions of Jews by excommunicating any of the MANY leaders of the Nazi regime who were Roman Catholics as you can see if you Google "Nazileadership" (one word) to find my web page, which page was viewed 43,266 times in 2008..

  • @Rayosun the rabbi of rome converted to catholicism because of the help the pope provided to the Jews during WWII, look it up. think about the situation here, the bishop is trying to stop scandal in the church, a proclaimed catholic politician not being catholic. the other situation, pope speaks up against hitler many more die, so instead pope helps and hides jews in vatican. check out the movie the scarlet and the black or just look up history about bishops helping jews in wwii, there's a lot

  • @Jrunri No one in the Catholic Church has rigid dogma forced upon them. No one is forced to be Catholic. "Rigid dogma" is, I suspect, code language for "teachings that make sense and that demand a response that I am unwilling to give." When people whine about "rigid dogma or doctrine", they usually mean they prefer to do as they bloody well please, ignoring the consequences, and refusing to acknowledge that there is such a thing as reality and truth beyond their own desires and imaginings.

  • the bible is full of murder. Just like history. Fucking sheep.

  • what about the rampant pedophilia? Proud of that? What about the oppression of woman, including the killing of the only Female pope who was pregnant at the time!!? The church is shit. The people are mostly good, but the leaders are sociopaths.. Google- Pope Joan.

  • still with the Jesus... judgment day is everyday! You repent., fucker.
