Today, 4 'olive' wires, each sporting a 5 mm conical stop, were removed from my foot. I came close to passing out and required oxygen and a five minute rest for each wire. This was done outpatient with no pain meds. After the second wire was pulled, the lidocaine was administered. My advice to anyone needing to have 'olive' wires removed: have the procedure performed 'in-patient'. The pain may be too much to bear for you. Truly.

I had one of those things on for about 5 months, when I broke my leg. It was pretty painful the first couple of days, but afterwards it was just annoying. I was walking normaly after 2 months, but they chose to keep it on for 3 more months.
I am very grateful that I live in Denmark where treatments like this is paid for by the state. Otherwise I doubt I would be able to afford it.
