Modified my Creative Webcam to fit my Meade DS-2130LNT Telescope. Recorded a short video clip of the Moon passing through the telescopes field of view in real time. Enjoy!

  • Great music! Thanks for posting your experiment. It's this type of trial/error we all need to shoot for. How else can we keep our budget low and our excitement high?

My webcam is an Xbox 360, usb, connected to an old Mac iBook G4. Looking forward to seeing how well it works with my 10" Dob. I'll probably use the Skype pref. window to view it for now till I learn what it can handle.

Anyone else modifying and getting good views, please post! Peace!

  • @frodnew1 Good luck, happy viewing =)

  • What web camera was used? And will 2megapixel high high resolution web camera be enough?

  • @ParaglidingManiac creative nx or mx something something.... lol the camera is lost now.... any normal web would work aslong as u mount it properly

  • can you see galaxies throuth this telescope?

  • @199591Eddy according to the box the telescope came in u can =)

  • Cool! Very encouraging as had a siomilar idea this week and bought a 2nd hand webcam for £2.99p to try out. Would Ineed a good telescope or would a small basic one do? Great music too thanks!

  • I decided to use a webcam so I bought one. When I put it in the focus rack, all I can see is the secondary mirror with the primary mirror reflection. ( It is a 114mm/1000 Newt reflector) I then heard to insert a 2x barlow lens, so I did.....this made the mirrors look zoomed out even more than before. What shall i do ? Can someone recomed help to me? and recomend a good/decent not too fancy webcam under £15.

  • out of focus :( seen another guy using a 35 mm canister...Ya also like the music :)

  • @rhemity There have been flashes on the moon observed for around the last 400 years, No-one really knows what causes it but the best guess is gasses being released through the lunar surface.

You're very lucky to have spotted it and I'm a little bit envious.

I've been watching the moon through my 10" newtonian for ages and have never seen one....bummer.

Let me know if you see any more and I'll join in the hunt from Australia.

  • That's all out of focus

  • @Musick665 anyone seeing the wierd flashes on the moon not this video through your telescopes check sector b-1 if you know them :) let me know what you see cause im only an amatur and i cant find an explanation ive seen this event like clock work on the last day of the month for the last 3 months since i brought my scope ive also had somone who knows alot more about this then i look at it and he is as puzzled as me anyway i dont think its aliens or somthing like that man made 3 flashes per min
