The greatness of this song is that it was written for, and part of, a fabulous piece of comedy that mocks the fallibility of Man (or Bean) and the continuous frustration of his Good Intentions, and yet that the music dares to be fabulously beautiful and pays a serious tribute to the British choral tradition.

I am sure Rowan Atkinson and/or his fellow writers have been choristers some time ago.
