Clip is taken from Yasha Aginsky's documentary "Les Blues de Balfa". It is an AWESOME film I would HIGHLY recommend. Dewey Balfa with Nathan Abshire preforming the most popular cajun song "Jolie Blon". One of only 4 preformances ON FILM I know of with Nathan Abshire. First part af video features zydeco star Rockin' Doopsie.
Also Dewey's nephew Todd Balfa on guitar.

  • Love the story Dewy tell with that fiddle! And the octaves Nathan is squeezing out that box is just a beautiful connection!!!!

  • QUALITY!

  • i always foud rockin dopsey a bit too much lazy blues and redneck shit, but i love how he played here with nathan! nathan iis well good. for those who dont know much old time cajun yet (which kicks the shit out of the new electric redneck shite) also check out the balfa brothers

  • Great stuff!

The 1st tune is that Rockin' Dopsie Sr. is on is referred to by Rockin Dopsie Jr's band as "Oh Bah Bah" (sp?) when they play it. The vocal is the same as Clifton Chenier's "Louisiana Two-Step" (not to be confused with the tune Dopsie Sr. called "Louisiana Two-Step", often recorded as "Bosco Stomp"), and Dopsie's accordion part is close to "Josephine Se Par Ma Femme". That song in turn was the basis for Paul Simon's "That Was Your Mother" featuring Dopsie Sr and his band.

  • Thanks for sharing, very much appreciated, merci beaucoup!

  • oh please what is the name of the first tune with Rockin Dopsie Sr, i can't find it, it sounds a lille bit like "don't mess with my toot toot" but not exactly.
