Okay, first off, this is not good. It needs some work. But after I tried it about 30 times and still couldn't get it right, I decided I'd edit together what I sort of got and put it up. It will be updated eventually.
This was played by ear, no music, and no prerequisite of music. Just a lot of trailer watching!

  • No tutorial?

  • @weezmurda Due to the nature of the interpretation, there is no tutorial, because it is a by-ear performance. I do apologize and hopefully you can find what you're looking for.

  • lol, I was about to say something like "what editing?" but I just noticed the cut at about 0:49 just now.. and 1:17 .. and 1:43 ... Did I miss any?

Even with cuts (which is technically semi-cheating I guess), it's still a great job. And as a perfectionist myself I can see why you'd say it's bad, but you're being probably a bit too hard on yourself (I do the same thing with myself). You're probably referring to the fact that it's not like.. perfect.. but of course it has no glaring errors.

  • @Monjonbo To clarify, I mean other YouTube video game pianists besides this guy (most of them sucking). THIS guy rules.

  • @Monjonbo I agree. It's rare to find a truly talented video game pianist on YouTube. There are only one or two that I happen to recall off the top of my head.. some French guy? I think his handle is like.. I forgot. But anyway, he's really good (but he doesn't always go by ear; only when there aren't accurate sheets already available supposedly, I believe I read, and when he does go by ear, it seems that he does have a good ear.

But most of the VG pianists on YTube just suck, I'm sorry to say.

  • @weezmurda "No tutorial?"

'Tis unfortunate for anyone who can't learn by ear, but in his defense, you can kind of tell just by listening to this that it'd be a really big job (even if he had all the specific notes to notate determined for sure, which it seems he doesn't, being that each time he plays it it's probably a little different. Different voicings of chords, etc.

Just guessing based on what he wrote & my own experiences.

  • Anyway, never mind those other comments; here's my complimentary comment to you for this vid:

GREAT job! I haven't looked at any of your other videos just yet, but I can already tell that you're very talented, and have a great ear!

    Keep up the good work!

  • @tehmikuji ..but before I clarified the notes in the Fairy Fountain theme, I'd been playing a simplified version just from recollection. The real version turned out to be a lot harder, but it was worth the learning & practice.

I'm going to be making a new YouTube channel, to be focused on my music-related stuff, mainly piano, but the most recent vid on this channel (Agitha's Castle) gives you an idea of what kinda video/audio quality I can get now.

  • @mastromjm "Due to the nature of the interpretation" etc.

I just wanna let you know, from one person who plays VG music on piano/keyboard by ear as a serious hobby to another, that I know exactly what you mean. I rarely make notations of the things I learn by ear myself, and most of them are just from recollection (like you said I think), with only some of them involving me going back to the piece and listening very carefully to get all the notes right. I did that w/ the Fairy Fountain theme..

  • Very impressive! This deserves more than 600 views... keep up the good work~
