@WillVol oh be djentle...
-
the word "Djent" is actually just an onomatopeia of the sound a guitar makes chugging.
-
@JeremiahLozada nothing at all like metalcore.
-
Djent was originally to describe the "djent" sound a guitar makes mainly used in bands like these, but now it is referred to as a genre, get over it.

@mick66692 also the use of heavy grooves over a synth patch or clean guitar is used a LOT. and it does piss me off when people call a band "djent" when they don't even have the tone. I've heard people call bands like a plea for purging and animals as leaders "djent". AAL only has the djent sound for part of Wave Of Babies. and plea doesn't sound at all like "djent". even their styles aren't djent-like

Its like metalcore, but with talent
And jsw2906 is right: Fredrick Thordendal from Meshuggah came up with the term "djent", years before Misha was even on the scene.

Djent is not a genre, it's just a sound technique. But nowadays, it became a genre (as you can see on GotDjent.com). However, people say that it's a djent band because it use polyrythmics and polymeters, and not for the tone.

So I would like to answer to a lot of interogations... I'm a french sound engineer and I can say that Djent is just a tone. Indeed, Djent tone is obtained with two strong noise gate around a compressor. Futhermore, if you want to get a Djent tone you need to increase the High Medium (around 1 and 4 kHz) and use a High Pass filter.
