  • Is this not actually at Felixstowe? It looks very unlike Westerfield, as the disused bay platforms at Westerfield would have meant the station was the wrong way round. Felixstowe is now looking different after the station was moved further along the platforms - so this is clearly before that work took place.

  • We had these in Lancashire too, yes they were noisy, but I liked them, and the Birmingham RCW class 104s

  • @BROADTRAIN1979 -I loved the smell of the diesel. Brings back happy child hood memories riding the line on the DMU 108 up in Birmingham. I cant get enough of the smell.

  • You may notice that it is difficult to find moving pictures of Class 105 DMUs in service on YouTube. BUT...I've actually found one elsewhere on You Tube: type in 'Digby Biggest dog in the world' and select the clip that starts with a railway track. Incidentally I dont recall this type of occurance being dealt with in the driver training films!!

  • I remember these great dmus. The thing with these105s, apart from the diesel oil stench , they had a real noisy rasp ,when they excelerated off ,brillant.

  • Yes I remember the Class 105's myself, I used to travel to school on them (amongst others) in Newcastle. I made an audio recording myself in about 1979, similar quality to yours, though mine had classic perished window seals, and very rattly windows in wooden frames. I think my main memory is their at times voilent vibrations and rattles - enhough to vibrate your teeth in some instances. I look forward to the forthcoming scale model - if they do a version with sound then will it have rattles?
