Wars, tend to be about killing people, and breaking things.
We do that much better these days, now that edged weaponry has gone out of fashion.
However, long before that time, slaughtering entire civilian populations was always a popular pastime, especially amongst victorious armies.
In fact, it wasn't until the late Middle Ages, that that sort of thing became frowned upon. And then, only because you needed the civilians to work the land.

@skeilak although clearly not likley, if we ever managed to use swords and arrows again less civilians would die

Well, despite whatever axes we may have to grind, let's be careful when we start tossing around numbers.
In the case of Iraq, many of those often counted as "civilians" were members of various militia groups, actively engaged in combat.
Whereas, bulk of the civilian casualties there, were the result of those same militia groups deliberately targeting innocent people with IEDs, like car and truck bombs, and not direct US Military action.

guns are bullshit. usa is continuing using guns that produced 20 years ago. so instead of spending money on extra weapon development shit. government should spend this money on something more useful. like i don't know. making better quality things. like any other normal country.

While civilians have always died ... the scale of the problem have gotten worse over the years.
World War I ... 15% was civilians.
World War II .. 50% was civilians.
Iraq war ... 90% are civilians.
Yeah, the military command knows those numbers as well, and with that in mind, I'd call it murder .. mass murder even.
@Four20pyro
Before you climb down from your high horse, you might want to remember that "murder", is a deliberate crime.
And that in warfare, innocent civilians are, and always have been, injured or killed.
Further, that weapons systems such as you saw here, are a deliberate attempt to minimize such casualties.
So, until you come up with a way to fight a war, without endangering civilians, maybe you should just save your two-bit moralizing, and STFU.
