I remember a series of American Tourister commercials where the luggage was put on the conveyor belt at the airport check-in, and moves along and out of sight behind the curtain into this cage with the gorilla. Funny.

Yea, hardsided luggage is still used, along with soft sided, its usage is about 40% hard / 60 % soft, IMO, by what I sell in the store where i work.

The owner of the store where i work was the vice president of american tourister when this commerical was made, he said that the gorilla kept breaking the case, so they ended up packing it full of newspapers and welding it shut. That worked. A suitcase is much stronger when packed full.

american tourister luggage today is extremely poor quality. The top of the luggage industry is "Briggs and riley" "Victorinox" and "Titan" In my opinion. They all have full unconditional lifetime warranties against any damage including airline damage and wear and tear. = free repairs/ replacement. I AM NOT SPAMMING. I work in a luggage store and this is my opinion.
