Title: Somalia Famine 2011 - Photos
Edited by: Pummie Sirisachdecha
Date: September 2011

The problem when a child is dying from starvation is that they can't wait. They can't put their hunger on pause until the media highlights their crisis, and the world sends enough food and aid. Instead, they will slowly starve and wither to their death. Hunger is a silent killer. It is not as dramatic as a tsunami or an earthquake, and so the news and public tend to largely ignore it.

12 million people in Northeast Africa (Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti) are facing death due to famine right now. In Somalia alone, 29,000 children under the age of 5 have died in the last 90 days, with another 2 million children inching further away from life as every hour slips by. For them, life and death are just a heartbeat apart. By the time you read this, it will already be too late for some.

  • thank you for posting this video. Terrible but true story...

  • @pedi007 You're welcome. These are worst of tragedies and the ones that are too often ignored by the world. We must all realize we have the potential to change the world for the better, and it starts with changing ourselves. I hope that this generation can put an end to extreme poverty and famine.

  • OMG the photo at 0:39 really made my problems look okay... so sad.

  • OMG :'(

  • @beautifulawakeningTV wow i'm so glad (and surprised) that there are still people who think like you. Too bad our generations is becoming worse by day and people seem to be more interested in silly video's and useless stuff than the truth about famine. Although there are still people out there who care about the world...
