Many undisclosed options are being proposed to students in order to offset operation costs at CSUMB. Some are ill advised but rise from fear and desperation; it is sad to see.
The problems of CA reflect a larger disease. We as a nation have allowed legislators and lawmakers to deprive us of a very important gift: self determinism borne of personal accountability. Until we become personally accountable for our thoughts and acts, we will never evolve as a nation, let alone as humans
The wording of the budget in the section of the CSU/UC states... " Reduction of 2 billion over 2 years to meet federal min, to recieve federal stim funds".
Actually they did. The fed slated 600 million to give to the csu. the state took the 600 million, gave the csu 200 million and is holding the rest to be paid out next year.
Charley is doing a great job under the circumstances. His hands are tied. The legislature's hands are tied. The California initiative system had tied up all the money and leaves no flexibility. California needs to throw out the state constitution and all the initiatives that earmark moneys for pet projects and give the power back to our elected officials to make the tough decisions. If they make bad ones we vote them out. Now their decision making power is so limited they can't do anything
Well, it's just a bunch of cheap words. We've certainly seen that his and the Trustees' actions do not match such words. They haven't explored all options for preventing the CSU system from becoming the increasingly elitist institution that it will become due to the fee hikes and reduced admissions. Their value system has been revealed during this crisis. Its one of inertia, resistance to visionary change, and inflexibility. Not what I would call role models or even effective leaders!

The CSU did not receive federal stimulous money. What is needed is a call for action at the legislative level.
