The Air compressor was making me go deaf so this last weekend I moved it out of the Shop. There is something annoying about having it running 2 feet away from you. I feel much better now!

  • An IBM'er, huh? My work is a big IBM shop... From z10's, all the way down to 3480 tape drives...

Data center raised floors certainly aren't good for your hearing either.

Most people outside the IT industry probably never think hearing loss would come with the territory....

  • LDPosse, The old 360/370s. The IBM 1403 N3 chain printer was loud with the lid up. Z10?, what beast!

  • Good move Jack!!!! Your lucky you had a place to move it. They also take up alot of space.

  • Yes, the room is always a premium isn't it?

  • thats a nice compressor? looks like one of the piston type ones. the piston type compressors are the nicer quiter ones. the new diapram compressors are awful loud and annoying i hate them. my dads dayton speedeaire runs pretty quiet. we got it used. best thing you could do is put a high quality air silencer on it where your air filer is or rought the air intake elsewhere so you dont have to listen to it. thats where alot of the noise comes from.

  • Ted, It is loud. I am going to try and make it quieter. Maybe direct the intake outside....

  • @wolfsheadoil, Thank you Sir. I need to do a little plumbing yet still but pleased with it.

  • I have seen that done at body shops. just make sure you you use a nice big air filter because it will encounter more dust out side if for instance someone is out moweing. . . and you will want a filter enclosior that is weather resistant so your filter doesnt get soggy wet or allow moisture into your pump. good luck!

  • mbyr31, Thanks I have to get going on blasting again, too many parts, not enough time! LOL

  • Thank you, I'll look into that, probably would be a good idea to get the air from outside. yes, at least this one will make your ears ring!

  • Nice workshop and compressor!

Most of the noise made by the compressor is intake noise, if you can duct it outside with PVC pipe wrapped in some sort of sound deadener (carpet offcuts are great) you will reduce the noise drastically!.

  • Nice move man!!! Thats a VERY nice compressor also!! Good work!
