The Michigan Supreme Court voted 5-2 in a ruling giving judges "reasonable control" over the appearance of individuals in their courtroom.
ACLU, CAIR, and religious groups also seek a clear exception to this broad ruling.
CAIR is seeking clarification on the rule and seeks concessions for individuals who wear hijab or the face veil in addition to religious garb worn by Christians, Jews and Sikhs.
