Oh, please help me find an audio recording of the song my father used to sing to me when he came home from Okinawa. It went: Sa-ra-ba Okinawa yo..." I am 61 and would love to have this so very, very much. Thanks so much.

'watch planes take off at large US military bases'
Why would anyone want to go to Okinawa to see that. That's the last thing people want to see. America should hurry up and leave Japan already. They've been there long enough and they cause nothing but trouble for the locals.

I'm not judging the Okinawan people. I love them. I am them. I don't know how the younger generation feel but I do know how the older generation feel or the majority of them once felt. I'll agree that the crimes committed by members of the USMC should cause justifiable anger towards them but many Marines love the people and the islands. Like I said, my mother witnessed first hand of the atrocities the Imperial Army of Japan unleashed on the native people of Okinawa.

many okinawans are glad to be part of japan and tend to have a hatred for the marines there causing crimes. not the whole u.s. military, but mainly the marines. if your mother has/had a problem with the japanese, that's her problem. don't judge all okinawans like that.

I don't want to get into any kind of debate with you. It's clear that you nor I was on the islands during WWII. My mother was and she witnessed first hand at the atrocities committed by the Japanese and no, she has never identified herself as a Japanese. Her hatred for the Japanese was life long. I, on the other hand, have a different opinion about the Japanese now that I've worked with them. They are some of the most honorable and honest people I've ever met. Americans could learn from them.

LOL you and your mother clearly have no idea about the history of okinawa. okinawa officially became a japanese prefecture in 1872 and had the same equal rights as the mainland japanese did. why would they torture their own citizens for? no, okinawa was never "occupied" by japan at the time when your mother was even born. haha is your mother suppose to be over 200 years old? the only time when okinawa was occupied was from 1945 to 1972 by the u.s. ethnically okinwans, but they are proud Japanese

You personally have native Okinawan relatives? Well eeeexcuuuuse me! What do I know about Okinawa? Well, my mother was born in Naha and her maiden name is Jahana. She watched the Japanese torture and killed other Okinawans. They even killed her oldest brother. All this was done during the Japanese occupation before being liberated by the Americans in WOrld War II. I know nothing about the contempt the Okinawans have for the Japanese? Be for real! The younger generation doesn't have a clue.
