  • This is just.. the best.

I'm only 16, but I need to say a few things, no modern-day songs can give me feeling like this song does. It's truly amazing.

It's really sad that there's only very few artists out there that are unheard of these days and are making wonderful music.

I hope, someone will come along with talent as pure as this, and create great music, and make us feel like we're all in a great era again.

Eric Clapton, you, along with Frank Sinatra and other artists, you're all amazing.

  • @3:15 kicks me so hard. so simple, yet so powerful. his soul is playing :)

  • Tha final solo says more than the lyrics of the song, the only traductor you need is the heart! Just amazing! Just Love it!

  • This song was written and the 'holy mother' is a woman whom he knew no identity. He wrote this when he started taking up drinking again in the 80s. As he says, music helps to heal the soul. Luckily he is the greatest songwriter ever so he can heal himself quite well.

  • Where is the "I f*cking LOVE it" button when you need one?

  • when my hands no longer play.

    my voice is still.

    I fade away

    Holy Mother, then I'll be

    lying in

    safe within your arms

  • @prelljeama

    thank u for that clarification

  • Per Eric himself (read his book) he wrote this song in his darkest hour of his addictions. He dedicated this to Richard Manuel; didn't write it because of him.

  • This song is not a tribute to the Holy Mother, although it certainly calls upon Her for answers. It was written in response to the suicide of Richard Manuel of the group The Band, who hung himself in March 1986. Clapton's album "August" was recorded in April and May of '86. Manuel was a good friend who had a history of depression and addiction. His death was a huge tragedy for his friends and the music community. He was one of the greats. This song is a beautiful tribute and expression of grief.

  • Awesome tribute to our HOLY MOTHER- bless you

  • I just love this.... no other way to express how it makes me feel

    stunning

  • this man, this voice, these words, this guitar and this band makes my heart wide open, soft and so strong. love you all.
