I'm sure you probably do...but I'm a filmmaker. I know what I'm talking about!
Ordinary people don't realize that looking into the camera doesn't increase connection with the viewer. It just makes the performer more nervous, because looking into the camera makes you self-conscious. Taking the camera "off axis" frees the performer up to focus on performing, rather than how s/he looks.

Don't worry about how you're sounding. The best way to sing is when you're uninhibited.
And you look just fine.
It also tends to help when you don't look at the camera. Just look in yourself. Singers often connect with audiences best not when they're looking at the audience, but when they're lost in themselves and completely engaged in the emotion of the song.
