Using this technique, you can very quickly and easily create 3D perspective using Flash (because Macromedia/Adobe forgot to give us this tool). This technique uses standard tools found in Flash and can be used for virtually any image to simulate the 3D effect used on the Apple iPhone (Cover View) and Windows Vista (3D flip).

The basic principle is using a simplified triangulation method commonly used in 3D modeling, but here we will apply the procedure manually. There is no coding, no plug-ins, and no other programs used to create this effect -- it is entirely creating in Flash using the most basic tools.

Let me know what you think as it may light a fire under me to create the Cover Flow video (again, really simple) and the 3D Video in Flash (perspective video).

  • Can you use 3D without targeting flash 10? I hate to deploy a movie that is only compatible with the latest version... :-\ This is driving me nuts, I am trying to animate a door which doesn't work with this technique, although this is very clever!
