I give specific references to where Stephen Jay Gould specifically told creationists that they misrepresented him, and where he explained various details about the concept of punctuated equilibrium and how creationists had misrepresented that. These are from some of Gould's discussion in 1981.

@arsjth, I always laugh when creationists such as yourself toss out a remark such as "smoke and mirrors" against a critic of your pseudoscience. Historical geology has, quite literally, THOUSANDS of science research articles relevant to all kinds of various aspects of the subject EVERY YEAR in the professional science literature, while YECs have ZERO science research articles published.in the professional science literature.

Pseudoscience pushers hate their critics and they hate the facts and they thrive on their conspiracy theory martyr complex rhetoric. And they're utter hypocrites as well, since it is in the creationist rhetoric that we find creationists saying things like their critics are servants of Satan and going to hell for going against God's Word.

@arsjth, regarding Prothero, the issue is not whether you'd read Prothero. The issue is COMPREHENSION, besides sheer ignorance. The fact is that creationists, and young earth creationists especially, love to make bold proclamatations based on sheer ignorance or things that are miles over their heads.
