I think people often miss the point in football when they lose. You have to put your chances in the back of the net. Fiorentina did not do this the Rangers goalie saved some and they just plain missed others.
It boiled down to the penaltie kicks and the statistics show Fiorentina missed more penalties than Rangers. Thats why you lost.

what's the point in all the shots and possession if it comes to nothing! Arguably whittaker and novo came closest to scoring anyway, for all of fiorentina's efforts their best chance fell to vieri but instead of scoring he managed to fall on his arse!
