Belt Crossing is where the Belt Railway of Chicago crosses the CN/IC Freeport Subdivision at grade. Several junctions where the Belt crosses another railroad are in the area, such as Nerska, where it crosses the BNSF Chillicothe and CN/IC Joliet Subdivisions. Most of the traffic is seen on the Belt, being run through freights, transfers, and locals. The CN/IC sees a dozen or so trains mostly being locals. Miniscule Hawthorne Yard is East of the junction and only sees a switcher or two a day to pick up or set off cars. Theres three interchanges at this junction being in all four corners except the Northwest quadrant. The Southwest quadrant has one of BRC's industrial branchline's running through it, crossing over the interchange and then the CN. Kinda a junction within a larger junction.
This morning, lots of trains rolled through here. Later on, we'll explore NERSKA junction a bit.

The BRC is used as a link for BNSF between their Corwith and Cicero Yards. Intermodal transfers between the two are common. This one came from Corwith and is going to Cicero.

A CN job that was working South of here returns with a cut of paper box cars and centerbeams. It takes the Southwest interchange over the BRC branch leading deep into the industrial South Side.

Another CN movement takes the Southwest interchange, this time in the form of light power. No doubt the IC unit led when it went the opposite direction.

Actually this was called Belt crossing. There was a tower. There was a tower here until the mid-90's
I visited there back then. That other railroad in the area was an IC subsidiary called the Chicago and Illinois Western. that line ran out to Mc Cook IL. They had a yard ot the east of the crossing. In later time the CC&P ran over the freeport line. Then I bought it back later on.
