Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Noman Bahsir stressed the need of enhancing coordination among law enforcement agencies to root out the menace of terrorism, curb crime and make this country more secure and peaceful. He expressed these views here at the passing out parade ceremony of 5th Batch of Intermediate and 6th Basic Anti-Terrorist Squad Courses. A total of 195 Head Constables and 92 cops of Anti-Terrorist Squad passed out in this four-month long course. Chief Commissioner Islamabad Shahid Mehmud, Senior Superintendent of Police Headquarters Muhammad Zubair Hashmi, senior police officials, foreign diplomats and family members of the passing out cadets also attended the ceremony. On the arrival of Chief of Naval Staff, a smartly turned out contingent of passing cadets presented guard of honour to him. Addressing the ceremony, Chief of Naval Staff said As criminals become more mobile and crime more frequently extra-jurisdictional, Islamabad Police must be more attentive and adept at collaborating with the entire law enforcement community. Coordination between government agencies, backed by well-articulated command and communication chain, will remain vital for successful planning and execution of any operation, he said. He congratulated all the graduating officers for bearing the rigours of a demanding physical as well as mental training and finally achieving this distinguished milestone. He hoped that these extensively trained squads provide a versatile force readily available within Police Service that can be rapidly deployed against terrorists. He appreciated Islamabad Police for always maintaining high standards of professional excellence and helpful attitude to win the confidence of the public. He hoped that new batch of graduating officers will maintain same level of enthusiasm and competence in discharge their public duties. Inspector General of Police, Syed Kaleem Imam in his welcome address, said that he is proud of his brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and averted several terror attempts. He said such courses are meant for capacity building and polish the skills of those offices being promoted to the next ranks. Giving the details of this course, the IGP said it included the anti-terrorism training, investigation techniques and operational handling. Syed Kaleem Imam also stressed the passing out police personals to adopt honest attitude in their service and make utmost effort to win the public confidence. He said that these passing out police personals would be promoted to the next rank in the next meeting of Promotion Board. He also highlighted the performance of Islamabad Police during the year 2009 said that our brave personnel had helped us to make the city more secure. Later, the Chief Guest, Admiral Noman Bashir awarded trophies and commendation certificates to Head Constable Ayaz Mehdi for securing first position in parade, firing and also to Head Constable Sajid Ali Zafar for getting first position in academics as well as in all-round performance. The Naval Chief also visited the monuments of martyrs established at Police Line Headquarters and laid floral wreath.
