This is a tutorial on how to use & install drivers and other software to capture with the Intensity Pro or Shuttle. It uses the Black Magic Media Express program.

The Intensity Shuttle requires USB 3.0 and a motherboard with a chipset of x58 or newer. Look for a blue USB port on your computer to see if you have USB 3.0. To find the chipset you have, you'll have to look at your computer specifications.

The Pro requires an open PCIe port inside your computer. Seeing if you have a free one BEFORE buying this card is recommended. Any size PCIe port will work. Do NOT mistake PCIe for PCI (use Google images to see the difference between the two ports if you have to).

Drivers & Manuals for all Intensity products can be found here:
http://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/

USB 3.0 Drivers:
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/renesas.htm

For minimum computer requirements for all Intensity capture cards:

2.6GHz Dual Core Processor
4GB RAM
512MB Graphics Card
500GB+ 7200RPM Hard Drive (externals work too)

Problems?
-Set your 360/PS3 to 720p/1080i before plugging into the capture card
-Check your cable connections. Make sure the INPUTS are coming from your console, and the OUTPUTS are going to your TV.
-You cannot capture using HDMI with the PS3.
-Go to the Black Magic Control Panel after installing software, make sure outputs/inputs are set correctly (further explained in Part 3)
-Make sure your settings in Media Express are set correctly (further explained in Part 3)

Ask questions and I will do my best to answer, but I will almost always direct you to Black Magic Support themselves. They have great support and know more about their products than I probably ever will.

  • Okay, so the problem I am having now is that on the Media Express program when I click capture it stays at a black screne. I have downloaded every option of the CD that it came with, but the USB 3.0 Desktop Video installer wont finish downloading and is giving an "Error 2753" What should I do? Ive tried figuring out how to fix the error, and trying to install an updated driver like you showed. Nothing changes and when I clicked on the USB 3.0 Host Controller Utility it came up with "Not Found"

  • @fireblaze1992 Search for a USB 3.0 controller on your computer first of all. If it doesn't show up then you might not have USB 3.0

Also, download the latest Black Magic drivers from the website since the ones on the CD are horribly outdated.

  • HELP: I have an intensity pro and its hdmi in and out I have followed all the steps and have the correct settings. On the log and capture tab there is no picture and I have set them both to 720p. It doesn't show up on my TV either. Thanks in advance for any help. :)

  • @TheFazedReality PS3 or 360? PS3 needs Component input, 360 should be fine with HDMI.

Also, are you using the Shuttle or Pro? Are the settings in Media Express good (and have you tried others?)

  • @SpaceTopGames Works like a dream with 1080i. Thanks

  • @TheFazedReality Weird, should work with both. Oh well, 1080i's better anyway.

  • @Mohd1986s Not the preview window, no.

  • Thanks!! You helped me out a lot!!

  • can you make it full screen?

  • @AgapeHaloful Make sure the Black Magic control panel is set to detect sound from HDMI, and that your console isn't outputting audio through Optical Out or RCA or something.
