This is part 1 of a 10 part series on building a model OSCILLATING (wobbler) STEAM ENGINE. Pattern making for the cylinder was covered in another video series. Many of the machining operations as well as erecting the engine are shown. The engine has a 2 1/2" bore and a 8 1/2" flywheel.

  • I really enjoy all your videos, and can tell you are a great teacher. I would have loved to have been in your class. I have wanted to get a lathe and mill to do some projeccts such as this and now at age 44 I am thinking about getting a Grizzly mill and lathe. Could you send me your thoughts on an entry level set quality up such as the Grizzly.

  • @turbinedoctor Thanks for the complements. My brother has a Grizzley mill (bridgeport clone. ) He said it is very good. Do not buy any of there cheapest machines. Save your money & get at least their middle grade.

  • THANKS YOU VERY MUCH

  • Great job

  • @DeanC993 I cast some of the smaller wheels.

  • hello mrpete222, i was wondering if it will be possible to put a wire brush on as an attachment to clean out the bore real good?

  • cool video i getting it to casting myself

  • this didn't really "help" me personally (I'm not actually building one), but it was sure fun to watch!

  • This is brilliant. Thanks a lot.

  • Mrpete222 great video series! I have learned alot. Thanks and keep up the great work.

  • Outstanding video! And truly inspirational for all of us home machinists. This project represents the apex of skill sets I hope to achieve. I can't thank you enough for taking the time and effort to produce videos such as this and share them with others. Truly representative of all that is good in our otherwise increasingly shallow and dumbed down society

  • i loled (in a good way at " ill just gouge it out with this huge screw driver" that is soooooooooo what i would say =-) good job on the casting
