this is my 2nd hitchcock movie and i just realized that b4 hitchcock i didnt reeally know what suspense is

Hitchcock's "cameo" is for once not only amusing, but also, as a friend once pointed-out to me, functional. By drinking the wine, he is helping deplete the on-hand supply, thus propelling the plot of Raines' being forced to go downstairs to the cellar and finding -- oh, I shouldn't give it away!

@bchfront Amusing? What’s amusing about a man putting a glass on a table? And functional? Of course he has to have a vague ‘function’, what’s he going to do, walk in front of the camera & wave? Hundreds of guests are drinking wine; Hitchcock’s glass is amongst dozens and dozens, 'helping depletion' none whatsoever. And what about in Strangers on a Train? I suppose a randomer carrying a cello onto a train is also rather amusing, and extremely functional. Not. OH STOP TALKING SHITE, YOU COCK END.
