System Shock 2 is a science fiction horror-themed hybrid game which incorporates a number of elements commonly seen in computer role-playing games and first-person shooters. Taking place on an experimental starship in the far future, System Shock 2 has the player take control of a soldier trying to survive a deadly and mysterious alien infestation. Horror is a prominent element of System Shock 2, and the game has been frequently described as being quite frightening.
This seven part tribute includes the original game music and a complete speed run video from beginning to end including some of the best audio logs from the game. I hope you'll enjoy this as much as I did making it.

  • This line is just powerful: "Beware of the machine-mother, she is a stranger to everything we cherrish." I don't know why.

  • I'm in the "Body of the Many" level and have a playtime of more than 12 hours.

It's hard to believe you can finish the game this fast, even though I'm looking at it.

  • man the dialouges are so amazing

  • the way we humans work is through a healthy mix of society and individualism. neither the way of the many nor shodan's should be desirable for any of you.

  • well that's pretty masochistic! I personally am rather fond of individualism...

  • Yep, I see, sorry, had a System Shock nostalgia evening last week, after this I watched a few more vids and refreshed my memory about the reality of their nature (the Prefontaine log particularly, as well as what appears to be mind control and unwilling coercion etc...), however I don't actually think that "planning to absord all life on earth" is necessarily a bad thing, as long as no deception was involved in the pursuit of a new master-slave type relationship (as appears to be the case here).

  • If it weren't violent, parasitic, psychically manipulative, intolerant of dissent, and planning to absorb all life on Earth, THEN it wouldn't be so bad. The thing is that no one, even the "willing" people who went over to The Many, ever had a choice. The second their behavior changed it was because the Annelids had taken over their minds and totally altered their priorities to protect the Annelids. Also, the Annelids eat people, if Prefontaine is to be believed.

  • It's been a long time since I played, but on the face of it, The Many aren't so evil, their cause appears to be a peaceful one, Shodan on the other hand, is pure ego. So what have I forgotten? What makes The Many so malicious?

I dont think "being contrary to human individualism" can be considered a type of evil, since that argument would be purely anthropocentric. I assume I am missing something.

  • That was part of what made SS2 so great. You caught in the middle of two extremes and forced to work with the lesser evil.

  • because it acknowledges the sort of philosophical divide at the center of the game's horror.
