Alun Hill visited England's Oxford to report on a new "green" project - designed by a 22 year old.

He shows how a "reversed" Archimedes screw, powered by a tributary of London's River Thames, is generating electricity for the nearby apartments - and how a special "pipe" laid in the river produces hot water.
He then shows electricity supply meters - which run backwards!
There's also an interview with the young designer himself - 23 year old Henry Reily-Collins.

  • brillant ideas used here, well done

  • What a fascinating project, brilliant to see something like this! I once went to the Alternative Technology Centre in Wales, UK. They have lots of displays of green power, but this is something else!!!

  • I'm investing in a similar scheme near Newtown, Powys, rated at 100kw.

  • Would this work for sewage ?

  • Anyone interested in Having one of these screws installed by Henry and the Team, Please search for hallidays hydropower on google or call 01865349020

Thanks again for the video alun!

  • Complimenti,bel lavoro

  • We live on the river Adur west sussex where there is a new footbridge planned, it would be great if this technology were involved, who do we get in tough with? We need advice please, great film

  • Very impressive piece of work all round; er, why isn't it done more widely? The Thames has (I believe) over 100 locks, all capable of small scale generation, must add up to quite a bit of saved carbon.

  • So exciting to see this technology. Just happened to be researching Archimedes screw for my daughters science project when I happened upon this young genius and his inventions. Things that I have wanted to do for years he has been able to achieve a a very young age. Would like to hear about pulling energy out of the river with a very small heat differential. Henry; Congratulations!!! Dave
