We decided to see what words Jade could type, so we opened the notepad on the laptop. What she did then, amazed us! Watch and see.

  • Is it considered "lining things up" when she doesn't put spaces between words?

Apart from simply strong preferences such as having her blocks with her for building before she will sing, and not liking traditional spacing between words when she writes, it doesn't seem like autism to me, but only that she could use a speech therapist - or just wait until she gets older to speak, like Thomas Edison who was six years old before he spoke much. Only issue is she's not speaking in full sentences?

  • @LosetheStone16 I never considered that she was lining words up. She didn't know how to use the spacebar yet. She is six now, and knows how to use a spacebar. The blocks were not par of the music routine, more that the music was part of the block routine. The concentration Jade showed at such a young age was only one of the symptoms of autism Jade has displayed.

I am relieved when my daughter is diagnosed as normal by strangers on youtube.

  • @LosetheStone16 Jade's speech is 90% echolalic. She can speak in full sentences, paragraphs and chapters, but she cannot answer many simple questions, such as her grade, age, brother's name, cannot tell us how her day was, etc. This last month, she has mastered answering "what is your name".

Autism is much more than just not speaking. Thomas Edison was himself very much on the autistic spectrum, just like Tesla, Einstein, etc, etc. Autism isn't always such a bad thing...

  • @LosetheStone16 btw, what part of she is only three, and is spelling and typing words do you not understand? I know I'm her mom, but I can't be the only person to find her amazing.

  • Does she have hyperlexia? This is a diagnosis for kids displaying autistic characteristics who also learn to read very early (usually with understanding of what they read - as opposed to kids with classic autism who might decode but not understand what they read). She is a precious little girl and you have done a wonderful job helping her to learn.

  • I had always thought she may have hyperlexia, which she was recently dx'd with. Kids can have autism and hyperlexia!

  • It would be nice if more people could see videos like this rather than the usual crying and screaming kids presented by groups like autism speaks. As an autistic I am glad you posted this video. Many of us are highly intelligent. And this video shows it quite well. Keep up the good work and Jade will do great things in the world.

  • i dont think u should use the word normal cuz its sorta offensive its saying kids with autism arent normal but they are there just different

  • Wow, the keyboard totally opened up Jade's ability to communicate. I've watched a few of your other earlier videos of Jade's progress and was starting to worry for her future a bit -- as in, would she be eternally frustrated with not being able to interact in a way that worked for both her and everyone else -- but with a computer, she has a tool to overcome any difficulties she might've had trying to conquer some of those challenges. And is she ever a smarty! And cute, too! You're blessed.

  • Did you teach her to type, or she just happened to what you a few times, and learn by herself? I know that's what many kids with autism do...

  • thanx for real that sounds more politically correct!!!!!!

  • instead of "normal" I prefer "neurotypical" which to us, usually equates to boring and confusing...
