You know how lightning blinks really fast? Telsa coils produce long blinking lightnings, and each one creates a click. Now, when clicks combine really fast they create something that resembles a note. And the faster they blink, the higher the pitch! I think.

If u think this is fake ur FREAKING RETARDED, we have a tesla coil in my Electronics Lab in school hooked up to a reostat. as u adjust the resistance(Voltage) the tone changes. They're using a program to adjust the input volage thus changing the tone. Science! D.D
