That land was given them by General Sherman, who did not have the authority to do so, THAT is why it was reversed.

  • That land was given them by General Sherman, who did not have the authority to do so, THAT is why it was reversed. Next time read the complete WIKI article.

  • @RetSquid Interesting, That you would argue this point with out understanding it.

By June 1865, around 10,000 freed slaves were settled on 400,000 acres (160,000 ha) in Georgia and South Carolina. Soon after, President Andrew Johnson reversed the order and returned the land to its white former owners. Because of this, the phrase has come to represent the failure of Reconstruction and the general public to assist African Americans.

"Therefore they can take it at anytime for no reason."

Except of course, they can't take it.

"EMANCIPATION. An act by which a person, who was once in the power of another, is rendered free."

    Bouvier's Dictionary of Law.

It was legal for the Government to take their property because they were in a state of insurection.

  • @RetSquid This is exactly what the Nazis did, You could own the business, land or whatever. Because the State owns You, they own your property de facto.

Therefore they can take it at anytime for no reason.

  • @RetSquid Then You just refuse to understand. I have given the exact location as to the defined word.

I have posted the Origin from the French and that it is from the time of the Proclamation.

To Emancipate is to transfer ownership of PROPERTY.

The slaves were NOT FREED, they're ownership was Transferred to the Government.

Explain how it was legal for anyone, Gov. included, was able to take all of anyone's property after it had been given to them with out compensation or crime?

  • @americanbandwidth

Your explaination makes no logical sense.

Emancipate "transfer ownership" to the person who is being emacipated.

  • @RetSquid Ok, The Slaves that were freed were given property that later was taken and return to the Slave owners that had owned them.

This was a legal action. Why? how is it possible to just take a Persons property?

Because the Government owned the Ex-Slaves.

    Emancipate

[L. emancipatus, p. p. of emancipare to emancipate; e + mancipare to transfer ownership in, fr. manceps purchaser, as being one who laid his hand on the thing bought; manus hand + capere to take.

    From 1863.
