The Captains is a voyage of self-discovery by none other than William Shatner, the legendary Canadian actor and entertainment icon, who pioneered the role of Starship captain, playing James T. Kirk on the original Star Trek series.

With a Bombardier Global Express jet at his disposal rather than the Starship Enterprise and traveling at mach speed, rather than warp speed, William Shatner travels to meet the other actors who have played Captains on Star Trek. He meets Patrick Stewart at his country home in England; Kate Mulgrew on the stage in New York; Avery Brooks in his studio in New Jersey; Scott Bakula at a ranch in California's Simi Valley and Chris Pine on the Paramount lot where Star Trek was filmed.

During his intimate conversations with each of the captains, Shatner reflects on his own career which began as a classical actor in Canada on the stage of the renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival and how that training prepared him for a career on stage and on screen that has spanned more than five decades.

The Captains is a unique documentary which examines much more than mere acting and the shows these people worked on. The film tells deep emotional tales of people striving to do what they love most and perform to a high enough standard as to make all their sacrifices worth while. The Captains is also boundless fun as personified by its gregarious, charming, and surprisingly soulful host.
