ATTENTION!
Allow me to introduce to you all LEONIDAS LEONARDI! Leonidas Leonardi was a pupil of Maurice Ravel. Maurice Ravel's orchestration for Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" was a tremendous success back in 1923. W. Bessel & Co. Paris, publishers of Mussorgsky's music, wanted something to strike back and so they approached a precoscious 21-years-old pianist named Leonidas Leonardi who was studying orchestration with Maurice Ravel himself at that time. Leonidas Leonardi obliged to orchestrate the work. He dedicated his orchestration to Igor Stravinsky, and conducted the premiere himself with the Lamoureux Orchestra in Paris on 15 June 1924. The US Premiere took place when the New York Symphony Orchestra performed it on 4 December 1924 under the baton of Walter Damrosch. In spite of that, the Leonardi version has remained an obscurity eversince, and NO recording exists for it!

Conductor Leonard Slatkin "revived" Leonidas Leonardi in the early '90s, and he used in his first compilation (of "Pictures at an Exhibition") an excerpt of Leonardi's orchestration (Promenade III & Tuileres).
MUST WATCH VIDEOS!! LEONIDAS LEONARDI FEATURED!!!

THEREFORE WE MUST CREATE AWARENESS ABOUT LEONIDAS LEONARDI! THERE MUST BE RECORDING(S) FOR LEONIDAS LEONARDI. Furthermore, there must be more recordings for Sir Henry Wood orchestrations.

Weird to hear a baroque piece given a romantic period arrangement.

@ologhai2 The J.S. Bach orchestral transcriptions, is practice that started in the late 19th centurt, and was in vogue for the first of half of the 20th century. Don't worry, they are fun!!! No horrors, no tears, no headaches!

Hmmm. Orchestration is alright, but I cant say I really like it for orchestra...or any instrument other than organ for that matter. I've seen videos of it on everything, from marimba to violin, and IMO it just doesn't work...it ends up sounding cheesy and unbalanced..
2:31 Bass trombone?

@skidrum11 Cimbasso, has the same range as a tuba or a contrabass trombone.

This is great!! I am happy to see that other people also enjoy fine classical music. Since you posted this there are 33 views, and I get to be the first to comment... If you like JS Bach, please check Toccata and Fugue in d minor, at St. Augustines' Cathedral. massive pipe organ, approx 9:38 secs on You Tube. The organists name I have forgotten. I found your channel by viewing AV-8B vid.

@BuzzDyou, Thanks for the comments! The point is that we need to reach consencus about J.S. Bach orchestral transcriptions. As you know, there are innumerable recordings for Bach's original works (organ works, etc), but there are only a few (recordings) about J.S. Bach orchestral transcriptions. This of course is disheartening (news) and needs to change... We must find a way for these 2 to co-exist (the orginal works, and the orchestrations).
Of course be bound to remember LEONIDAS LEONARDI!
