In loving memory of my baby - For Matteo/Pour Matteo - Severe Brain Damage

Mattéo Riopel 05/12/29 - 08/11/04




Mattéo was born at 33 weeks with a tracheo and bronchomalacia and severe reflux, which required him to have 2 surgeries. On Sept. 25, he had his last surgery to correct the gastro-oesophagal reflux at the Montreal Children's Hospital. On Oct 17, we came back to Chisasibi, James Bay (where we live) and following his latest surgery, Mattéo was limited in his amount of food intake so for the next 3-6 months he was to receive gavages. But he was basically ok and he went trick-or-treating for Halloween, like any other kid, dressed as an elephant. On Nov 2, he went to bed and he was fine. He woke up an hour later complaining of headeaches and vomiting. I brought him to the Chisasibi Hospital and things started to deteriorate from then on. He was intubated at 6am and brought by medical plane to Montreal. A few hours after arriving in Montreal, tests confirmed that he had a blood clot at the brain stem. On Nov 4, he had cerebral death, he was extubated that evening and died a few minutes later. It was very quick, painful and inexplicable. He will be missed, but never forgotten.

THIS WAS A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE!...you would be surprised @ how many parents wish they could have that kind of moment w/their dying child in their arms...i'm sorry you lost you beautiful boy, but happy that as a mother, you got to hold your baby in your arms just the way he came n2 the world...naked and innocent! be blessed!

i am so very sorry for your loss, and i can honestly say i understand. i lost my baby girl this christmas eve to brain damage as well unfortunaetly it wasnt the same reason, she was murdered. i feel your pain and i love this video. i cant even stop crying long enough to see the whole thing i am truly so sorry you have to feel this pain
